dONCASTER ROVERS FOOTBALL MUSEUM: Drfc season by season

This page of the pilot museum website serves to illustrate the scope of the museum project. How are we going to work through that 150-year period?

We can split 150 years of DRFC history into more manageable sections in different ways for different purposes. 

For example, sometimes we might use some combination of the dates of the founding period and the four homes: 1879-1885, Intake Ground, Bennethorpe, Belle Vue, Eco-Power/Keepmoat/Lakeside. Another method could use just 3 periods - 1879-WW1, post-WW1 to end of WW2, post-WW2 to the present. There will be other methods we use sometimes to tell the various stories - for example, by decade, or by using perceived 'eras', or by whoever the manager was.

However, a specific method is needed for the detail of matches and players, the statistics of what happened on the field in each game plus whatever happened relevant to Rovers on other dates including in Summer. 

In the football world, the calendar runs by season, so that is the main overall approach to our history we should use. This page sets out 150 theoretical football seasons starting with 1879/1880. For some of those seasons there was no regular football due to wars or Rovers were not involved. After WW1 Rovers did not begin again until 1920. However there is still Rovers history to uncover in every year of the 150 year period of our existence.

So if we are designing a website to reflect all this then a season-by-season approach might have 150 pages of summaries. In theory each line of text on this page could be a link to a specific season. But each page could never cover all the details so we won't try that here. The detailed statistics behind those summaries plus the photographs, text and other items that illustrate each one have to be stored somewhere else in a different way.
